Who's yer baby?

There's a new found object.

Going to Pretty Girls Make Graves tonight with Ricker.

Went to The Ocean Blue last night at Schuba's. What a blast from the past. It was fun, but it was more nostalgic than entertaining. If I were to have heard The Ocean Blue for the first time today, I don't think I'd be into them. It all seems like weird throwback naive music. My ideal self admires the naivete of their music. It's all about goodness and art and literature and I find that extremely laudable. I guess I'm just a little cynical and so I don't gravitate toward it naturally. Fortunately in my youth I was open to it, because it was a fun experience last night. Got to be right up to the stage and the guys look pretty much the same except they're all a little older. Some of the most innocuous looking musicians I've ever seen.

Some band called The Owls opened and I was expecting to see Tim Kinsella and the ol' Cap'n Jazz gang, whom I all like, but thought it was kind of strange. Turns out there's a Minneapolis version of The Owls, and they're nothing like the Chicago brand. Minneapolis Owls consist of two girls and two guys. They all switch around their instruments a lot, but all of the music isn't too difficult, so it wasn't that impressive of a feat. A couple times I thought they were either harmonizing poorly or being purposely dissonant. Once I thought a guitar was out of tune, even though he JUST tuned it and was satisfied with the sound. Like, again, purposely dissonant for like the whole song, which was weird cuz they were like this pretty kind of folksy band. I almost liked them enough to buy something, but I didn't. I also didn't buy the new Ocean Blue, but Claude did, which should tell you PLENTY (or, nothing if you don't know Claude).
