Adieu, Coco, je vais te souvenir

I'm pretty sure that's french for "farewell, Coco, I will miss you," but I forget (or perhaps never knew) whether the te goes conjugated or the infinitive.

Anyway, there I was, TRANNYSHACKED!!!

On my first night in San Francisco, what I most wanted to do was go see the show at Trannyshack, an ongoing drag night at a bar humorously named The Stud. Fortunately, this was no ordinary night at Trannyshack. No, it was the final show where reigning Ms. Trannyshack, Coco Canal, would be, um, reigning. The upcoming Saturday would be the night for people to decide who the next Ms. Trannyshack would be.

Anyway, since it was Coco's last night, I feel like she was putting on an extra-special show, and the air was tingling with all sorts of emotions.

The first performer of the night was either pretending to be a drugged out freak, or actually was one. Either way, the performance was totally fun and crazy. She was dressed as Dorothy.

She was popping pills and drinking from a full bottle of brown liquor. Her back up dancers were like retards, too!
The next few performers were good, but I'll let the pictures speak for them.

This one obviously had the most serious bod goin' on. It's obvious she's a newbie and really looking to impress the crowd (and also, Heklina said as much).

This one did a very challenging Yma Sumac piece.

Her lip-synching was very impressive. Very fast-paced portuguese.

In Coco Canal's final performance as Ms. Trannyshack 2005, she came out on stage with her tiara and a melancholy song played on the overhead.

As the song continued, different drag queens came out and removed her tiara, her sash, then her wig, her gown, her eyelashes and then her makeup.

When the piece reached its conclusion, it was very quiet and you could tell that although it seemed funny at first, Coco was sad to be going.

I was really glad to have seen the show. I felt like I got to see a special one.
