Electronics: my friends/my foes

For some reason, over a 24-hour period I had a breakdown on 4 different electronics items in my life and it was really annoying.

My television is one of those big-screen rear projection things and for about the past 4 years it's had this thing where sometimes the bulb doesn't ignite and when it does that, I have to take off the back panel, pull out the light, shake it a bit, put it back in, put the back cover back on, and then turn it on again. The other night, that process didn't work. I immediately was like, "oh no, I need a new tv." and also "oh cool, maybe I won't have a tv." Anyway, it ended up that it worked the next day, so, crisis averted.

The same day, my phone stopped giving audio notifications. Rings, text messages, etc. This isn't really a new problem, either. I usually have to just reset the sound settings in the preferences in order to kick them back on, but the lapses in sound are happening more frequently, lately.

Also, the flatbed cd loader on my computer at home stopped working. On a mac, you have an eject button on your keyboard that engages the mechanism. The button works and I know this because an eject icon appears on my screen when I press it. Just the loader doesn't open. This especially sucks because I just bought a record player designed for uploading records into my iTunes and I was so looking forward to getting those. I have albums that I've owned for 15 years that I've never opened because I've never owned a record player. But, I can't install the software needed for uploading the tunes. Bummer.

I have a feeling this will fall under my computer's warranty, but the next time I can go to the apple store is saturday, and I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment.

Also in technology news, I took a whole bunch of old dv tapes to Costco the other day to have them converted to dvd. They're all tapes of old band practices and concerts my band played. I'm hoping to find some songs that were never recorded by us. It's been over three years since we broke up and there are a couple songs which are now almost extinct memories. I'd like to be able to convert the audio to mp3s. Let's hope there's some jewels in those tapes.
