Someone tell me something interesting. I'm running out of steam.

Went to New York over the weekend.

Here is a picture of me and Brooklyn Joe and a hot dog lady:

New York was fun, as usual. Got to see Frank, too.

New found object and a quick note about a dream.

Sunday, March 21, 2004

Yeah, great one. Yesterday I post a budding flower and it's beautiful out and today, it's freezing and snowing. At least it's sunny.

Last night I went to see The Liars. There's an audio post of it on my found blog. I haven't listened to it yet, though I can tell you it consists of an entire song. The show itself was a little disappointing, but something happened to me while I was there, and I think it was not coincidental. I felt creative. I took several pictures from the vantage of the windows. I'm excited about the pictures. Maybe I'll post them somewhere. But either way, it was partly because the singer, Angus Andrew, mentioned that we were in beautiful surroundings and that we, the audience, should look out the window. I took his advice. Then took some pics. I tried taking a picture of his shadow, looming like a phantom, in huge over-size, on the wall above the window. I hope it came out.

Young People opened and I wanted to like them, but ultimately did not, so much. The singers voice sounded like a cross between Jenny Toomey (Tsunami, Grenadine) and Siouxsie Sioux, of Siouxsie and the Banshees.

I also ran into several random people. Phoebe, the girl who serves me coffee at Half and Half, in Wicker Park; Gayle, my friend from high school (and from the present); Mark Frietas, former HomoCore activist/organizer, current label guy (don't know the label's name) and current member of Rotten Fruits, and also Elliot, sound man extraordinaire, who did a wonderful job of pounding our collective eardrums.

Oh, I saw that someone found me by Yahoo! searching my name. Cool. I wish I could figure out who it was. Maybe they'll tell me...?

_______________

Lots of updates today, mostly behind-the-scenes type stuff, including adding hidden tags that will make searches for "dreams" or "music" or "found objects" lead to my pages. I did add a found object, though.

Here's some proof that spring is come.

I can't seem to locate my archives. This sucks. Anybody know anything about getting them back?

OK, figured it out all on my lonesome. I'm so cool, yo.

Published a new article on the CD review page of In The Periphery. It's uncharacteristically sterling. Check it out.

New found object, which is related to this morning's dream, in which I made breakthrough. It's quite exciting. Posted an interesting anecdote relating to yesterday's post and also about the shrinking world of the internet on the jsr, and I bought some books over the weekend.

Oh, and Rick doesn't like the color scheme of this site. Does anyone else have an opinion about that? I'd really REALLY like to know. Please comment. Thanks

Some changes to the reading blog, plus a new post. Also new functionality to this page (e-mail form for notifying friends of my site). New found objects from this morning as well. Check 'em out. I'm about to go post something on the hipster book forum, too. Boy, I'm busy.

Found this great site, Satan's Laundromat, a photoblog through Corie through Jason. The author just celebrated his 1 year anniversary and posted his favorites for the year.

Wow, took me a while, but now there's a guest book. Sign it, Dammit!

Busy at work today.

Added a new link to my friend Jason's brand new Blog. Please go check it out. I'll ask again when we get his counter in and some more features are added. Love to all.

Oh, and now you can IM me through here. Cool. Thanks, Mike for programming tips.

New post to the dream blog. Pretty messed up dreams last night.

--

Also some new stuff on the reading blog.

Sign Farewell Society's guest book. It's lonely. Tell us how the MP3's sound.

Wow, 7 people visited since Friday. That's like 2.5 people a day! And Dan was obviously one of them. I know this because he COMMENTED! Commenting is cool. If you read his, click on his homepage link and look at his baby and wife and family and stuff. He may not have his own domain name, but he's still kind of pretty cool.

No updates to any of the sites today. I'm busy!

OK, it's later, and I added stuff to the found blog.

Friday, March 05, 2004

I'm dreaming a lot lately. It's cuz I'm sleeping too much, because I'm a little depressed. I'll get over it though. Anyway, there's a new dream on the dream blog, and I posted a new comment on the hipterbookforum about All Quiet On The Western Front, which is turning out to be an excellent, rivetting book.

Did I mention I LOVE people who make comments? Unless they're smiley faces. NO SMILEY FACES!!!

WELCOME!

There's some new content in the personal reading area and in the found blog. I'd really like to re-design the found blog, if anyone has any ideas. Oh, and please use the commenting capability; I'd like to test it. I'd really like for people to participate in this. It will make me feel more validated about how much work I'm putting into this. (At least my typing skills are growing) (oh shit, it's raining! :()

So, since I am putting a lot of time and effort into this site and all of its areas, I got started thinking about divvying up time between the physical world and the digital world. There are those (and this is a really annoying point of view, in my opinion) who say that online presence is a waste of time. That developing all this content for faceless strangers is time wasted compared to time that could be spent with real people, doing real activities.

First of all, part of the reason for all of bhofmeister13.com is to set up a platform for marketing myself. Part of it is also for fun. Part of it is even social.

But, I do have to say that I've been neglecting some of my physical world activities, such as journal-writing long-hand, which is something I've been doing on and off for over ten years now. (wow) One of the things led up to the creation of the found object blog I maintain (which I know desperately needs some sort of cool skin; I'm formulating a look I want, but it will probably take a loooong time to implement) is the fact that I keep what I call "memory boxes." A memory box consists of a small box, a blank book and a pen. I make efforts to procure each of these things once a year. Throughout each year (my birth year, not the Western calendar's) I amass mementos which I put in the box and write journal entries about the objects. They're often typical memento-type objects, but I try and be creative. I mean, there's plenty of ticket stubs, but there's other fun things as well. Anyway, my memory box is one thing I've been neglecting, and since my birthday is coming up, and I have to start thinking about a new box for my new year, I've noticed that I've been neglecting its upkeep.

It's a very specifically digital-age issue dividing one's time between the digital and physical worlds. I guess that's my whole point, as boring and obvious as it may be.

Dream Blog redesign.

This is on a new domain name. Yay me.
